• Typical absence seizures include brief sudden loss of consciousness, staring spells, unawareness of surroundings, and rapid recovery without memory of the episode.

• Mechanism of Action

• It acts primarily by blocking T‑type calcium channels in thalamic neurons.

• This reduces abnormal electrical discharges in the brain and suppresses absence seizures.

• Other Uses

• May also be used in some myoclonic seizures.

• Generally not effective for generalized tonic‑clonic seizures or complex partial seizures.
